September Season

AMY BURCHELL

I place myself as the observer of past happenings, with little knowledge of whom the person was that no longer occupies the space. A gradually slowing swing that could seemingly be from a breeze, beheaded and torn flowers or a lost garment all elude to a former, yet anonymous body. All that is left is minor evidence of this almost completely unknown being. These remaining entities are subtle and easily ignored or scenes that have been forgotten, occurred accidentally or simply left behind.

VICIOUS BULWARK
Alistair Kennedy

New work by Midlands based artist Alistair Kennedy.  An eclectic mix of paintings, collage and mixed media artworks. Inspired by the aesthetic beauty of histological slides and medical photography. Loosely based around the T.S.Eliot poem East Coker and the artist's personal experience of an incurable chronic illness; Vicious Bulwark, as a project, centres on ideas such as mortality, religion, medical science and living with a disability.

"Vicious Bulwark is a paradox. What makes you better also does you harm. A little bit of what you fancy doesnŐt do you any good at all. Another double blind study - superstitious, superstitious scars."

This show is part of Staffordshire Open Studios 2008 and Alistair Kennedy will be available to talk about his work over the "Open Studio" weekends of 20th and 27th September.

DRAW A CROWD

Community Groups and young people have been working with artist Ruth Allen in producing drawing and prints for this exhibition celebrating the Big Draw Campaign 2008. The Campaign for Drawing has one aim: to get everyone drawing! Over 1000 UK venues will take part in the ninth Big Draw from 1st to 31st October 2008. This annual programme shows that drawing is the perfect medium for observation, self-expression and fun.

Draw a Crowd proves that drawing can be an enjoyable public activity as well as a private passion. The mission is not to teach people how to draw, but how to see.

Join us for a FREE drawing workshop on Saturday 11th. October at the Brewhouse 12.30pm to 2.30pm. You will have the opportunity to produce a drawing that could be part of the exhibition.

BIOSCAPE
by Vitor Azevedo

An autobiographical journey that spans through capsules of time and addresses how painting is a reflection of life, even if you don't realise it at the time. Large acrylics present a personal journey that captures visual stills of memories.

 Open Gallery

Artsmith, a collaboration of local artists, will perform a physical theatre piece inviting you to enter a surreal experience transporting your zone of comfort to the edge of imagination.
