Grasping the Nettle is a powerful short film following textile artist Allan Brown, who spends seven years crafting a dress by hand from foraged stinging nettles. As he relearns ancient skills—spinning, weaving, sewing—the process becomes a deeply personal journey through grief, following the loss of his wife, Alex. The result is a zero-carbon garment, woven with care, memory, and healing. Finally worn by his daughter in the woods where the nettles grew, the dress symbolises love and transformation. Directed by Dylan Howitt, this is a moving story of creativity, resilience, and reconnecting with the natural world.
